Stories

  • Abe Lincoln! · 8 pages

A black man is talking with his dog in his cabin, telling the mongrel the full story of a man named Abraham Lincoln, from childhood until the outbreak of the Civil War, and asking the Lord to not let anything happen to Lincoln.

  • First Shot! · 7 pages

As Union soldiers sleep in Fort Sumter, shells suddenly bombard the fort, and the battle that all dreaded has begun. Fortunately, there are no casualties, except one.

  • Speech · 1 pages
  • Choose Sides! · 6 pages

With states having seceded from the Union, it is now time for people to decide which side they favor: North or South. The St. Louis militia is housed at Camp Jackson, but Union troops under General Sigel attempt to force them out. That is not to the liking of an elderly man everyone calls Grandpa, and he decides to shoot one of the Yanks down, and now the stage has been set for war.

  • Bull Run! · 7 pages

As Union forces go marching confidently out of Washington D.C., each soldier reminds himself that he has enlisted only for 3 months, and the war should be over within 60 days -- or so they think. The rebels have other ideas. Three Union soldiers become, in their minds, the Three Musketeers and vow to see the battle out together. Reality sets in once one of them falls; this will be a long war.
