This heartens the man as he now knows that he is destined to be one of the few who survive.

The scientist is enraged and wants to throttle the other who kept insisting for years that UFOs were weather balloons. The other scientist removes a human face mask revealing an alien underneath and says "they were OUR weather balloons."
