    The Superman from the post-Crisis universe runs into Lana Lang at Superman's tomb. After relating the story of his death and resurrection to Lana, the two take Superman's remains to his Fortress of Solitude. But they find the elements necessary to bring Superman back to life are missing from this universe, and Superman helps Lana put the remains of his doppelganger to rest between his parents' graves.

    Settling into their new lives as the Smiths, the Superman family need to deal with Jon's emerging powers and find Superman's place among this world's super-heroes.

    Superman takes Jon along on a case to observe and it becomes an opportunity to teach his son about character. Later, Jon is injured when falling out of a tree, so the family heads to the Fortress of Solitude to find out why Jon's powers are so inconsistent. But a familiar figure awaits them there.

    Superman makes an uneasy alliance with the Eradicator to examine Jon. But when the Eradicator explains his primary purpose is to preserve the Kryptonian genome, and this means eradicating Jon's human half, the alliance is off.

    Together Superman and son wound the Eradicator and release the Kryptonian souls he had captured. They are all then drawn to a piece of Kryptonite in Metropolis, followed by the Eradicator. With the help of these ghosts, Superman is able to flee with Jon and Lois, heading for the moon.

    Superman brings his family to a Batcave on the dark side of the moon, but they are followed by the Eradicator. The Eradicator inhales Superman, but Jon fights back with help from his mother in Batman's Hellbat suit, until Superman re-emerges, ready to stop the Eradicator once and for all.

    Superman's battle with the Eradicator finally ends when Krypto emerges from the villain, leaving him powerless. The fight being viewed from Earth, Superman has no choice but to go public. But Jon needs to protect his secret identity now that his father has decided to reveal him to Batman and Wonder Woman as the newly christened Superboy.
