Nicky vows that he will quit the team unless he can qualify for a Davy Award in the next 24 hours. Judy and Biff both try to help by arranging for him to "save" them while on dangerous missions but Nicky sees through their ruses.

Dane tries twice to allow Nicky to rescue him but this only makes Nicky angry. When another distress call comes in, he refuses to go along.

The Sea Devils discover a giant magnetic creature that is causing ships to sink and they are quickly trapped among the magnetized debris. Dane radios Nicky for help but the teen delays his response, believing the team is exaggerating their peril again. He soon relents and finally manages to rescue his friends through great effort, eventually receiving a Davy for himself.
