    Nina is hired as the governess for little Penny, daughter of widower Nicolas, although his mother Mrs. Ravon objects. Nina and Penny become friends, and Nina and Nicholas fall in love, but his bitter mother frames Nina for theft and bribes the chauffeur to claim they were lovers. Nina pays the chauffeur to recant, however Mrs. Ravon sets the house on fire in an attempt to kill everyone. She dies but Penny and Nicholas are saved and Nina will marry Nicholas.

Tom moves to Paris to study psychiatry. His mentor assigns him a patient who tells a tale of disillusion – it’s Amy, who admits she made a mistake and loves Tom. They are reunited.

Hollywood photographer Gene urges them both to move to Hollywood; Walter is dubious but Joyce convinces him to agree. However, Walter becomes disillusioned and leaves; Joyce is forced to become a waitress to live. When she goes home, Joyce discovers Walter has married someone else. Joyce wishes them well and departs for an uncertain future.
