McNelly of the Rangers recruits Buck to go undercover and discover the true identity of the mysterious crime lord, Chesaldine, and bust up Chesaldine's rustler gang in the Big Bend region. Buck falls for the Chesaldine's innocent daughter, and must resolve all conflicts or die trying.

He returns to face his fate, but the gunman, Dorgin the rustler, also left his own hat, and donned Bill's by mistake, exposing his guilt. Quirt, Dorgin's confederate, recovered, bullet just creased his scalp, and both were jailed for stealing horses.
