Carol writes a note to her husband Bill: she’s leaving him for Norman, a man she met in “a small dramatic group.” Norman has no intention of marrying her and advises Carol to go back to Bill. Newsstand proprietor Mary tells Carol about her own marriage to Mike, whose husband left her for another woman. Mary waited and Mike eventually came back. Carol goes home to Bill, but he hasn’t even seen the note. Carol confesses all. They both go to thank Mary, who admits she lied about her own marriage, for Carol’s sake.

Nickie returns from military service to discover his girlfriend has married someone else and his old job is filled. He makes friends with diner waitress Jean and helps her out around the place. They fall in love and he learns she owns the diner: they’ll be partners in business and in life.

  • Unreturned Kisses! · 5 pages

Janet leaves her small town boyfriend Willie behind and moves to the city. She rooms with old friend Peggy, who is engaged to her boss Jim. Janet flirts with Jim but he’s loyal to Peggy: “You’re a conceited lame-brain!” Janet goes home and marries Willie.

  • I Want to Forget · 7 pages

Helen dates wealthy Marshall, a “handsome elderly man,” even though she knows she’s “too young for him.” However, she eventually accepts his marriage proposal. Marshall’s grown daughter Gloria doesn’t approve of the marriage. Helen intervenes when Gloria starts dating “scoundrel” Tony, but defends Gloria to her husband. The appreciative Gloria shows her father that Helen was right, and the two women become friends.
