Stories

  • The Way of the Monk · 22 pages

A ronin who has become a monk and devoted himself to peace is drawn into protecting a village from bandits, where he goes into a (Hulk-like) berserker rage.

Publisher’s description

In this issue, a former samurai-turned monk is called upon to come down off his mountain meditations to defend the town below from raiding bandits. He initially refuses, but finally agrees after a visit from a strange wandering man who also appeared in the first issue. While the monk does finally come down from the mountain and wage battle against the raiders, he gives in to his rage and become observed as something of a monster. The monk saves the day and leaves the village, looking for a new temple where he can resume his meditations, reflecting on the inarguable place of violence in the world.
